The Wound Care Certified (WCC®) designation, offered by the National Alliance of Wound Care and Ostomy (NAWCO), is a multidisciplinary, accredited certification for licensed healthcare professionals (RNs, LPNs/LVNs, PTs, OTs, NPs, PAs, MDs/DOs) in the US. It verifies expertise in skin and wound management, requiring an exam, specific education, and experience.
Minimum requirements include: Completion of an approved wound care training course (e.g., WCEI) and either 120 hours of hands-on preceptorship or 2+ years of full-time (or 4 years part-time) clinical experience.
Chronic wounds: Pressure Ulcers, Venous/ Arterial Stasis Ulcers, Chronic infections, Diabetic Foot Ulcers, Surgical Wounds, Skin Tears, and Radiation Wounds*
Acute wounds: Bites with high risk of infection or skin breakdown (human, mammal, insect, and reptile), minor non-penetrating lacerations not requiring sedation or blood products*
